22년 만에 아스널에 잉글랜드 프리미어리그(EPL) 우승을 안긴 미켈 아르테타(44·스페인) 감독이 2025-2026 시즌 올해의 감독상을 받았다. EPL 사무국은 이날 “아르테타 감독이 아스널을 22년 만에 리그 우승으로 이끈 공로로 올해의 감독상 수상자로 선정됐다”고 발표했다. 지난 2019년 아스널에 부임한 아르테타는 감독 경력 사상 첫 수상이자, 아스널 감독으로는 2003-2004 무패 우승을 이룬 아르센 벵거 이후 두 번째다.

아르테타 감독과 아스널의 EPL 우승은 전 세계 축구 팬들에게도 큰 화제다. 만년 4위권에 머물던 아스널은 아르테타 감독이 부임한 이후 근 몇 년간 전력이 급상승하며 우승 후보로 급부상했다. 하지만 지난 3시즌 모두 시즌 말미에 경기력이 떨어지며 3연속 준우승에 그치고 말았다.
